News:

Blaise (of the Herald sisters): I woke up sandwiched between them, all of us naked, and they were just sharing a cigarette, a donut, and the paper like it was just some normal post-threesome Sunday brunch.

Cassandra glanced down at her watch - it was nearly half-passed ten in the evening, but she'd sent memos out to all of the 'supernatural' agents of the police to gather in the break room, to which she'd used the cover of a new ordinance as an excuse. Most of the other officers were more than willing to go home at the normal time instead of staying two hours late, which was exactly what she'd anticipated.

"Okay," she said, holding her hand up for silence. "I'm sure you're all wondering why you're here. Tomorrow, I'm going to announce that I've set up a special task force for drug detail - more on that later. We're actually going to be looking for this woman," she said, stepping aside from the cork board where a blown-up black-and-white photo was pinned. "Victoria Kelly. It's been brought to my attention that she's had a hand in the kidnapping of the pregnant fiancée of Lucien Cobriana - for those of you who are Serpiente, this is serious. The Diente has requested the help of the department as his formal position, and as the leader of the Onyx Guild. I realize that we don't often work hand-in-hand with the guilds, but it seems as though this woman, a White Viper, has taken the future Naga to Midnight."

She paused, listening to the hush that ran through the police gathered before her. "I know," was all she said. She was aware of their thoughts and feelings - the inability to lie showed itself in many forms. "It seems like Midnight has perhaps bitten off more than they can chew this time around. I cannot predict the future, so I don't know what will happen, but I can feel it in my bones that there are about to be a lot of problems, and they are going to spill onto the streets, starting with this woman. From what I know about her, which is only what I was able to dig up after using my, ah, talents, is that she's been associated with Midnight for over ten years now. She's working with someone, though I can't get who, and she is to be considered very dangerous - she will absolutely be armed."

She walked around the desk and sat down atop it, crossing her legs at the ankles and placing her hands in her lap. "I need her alive," she said after a moment of pause. "She is to be turned over to the Diente for judgment, and that is why I've called on you specifically. Those of you not familiar with Serpiente law, I'm sure someone will be glad to explain it to you - those of who already know, you can understand why we need to have a quiet hand in this, but firm. Those of you who have human partners, I will give you a specific briefing for you to carry over to them, stating why you have been temporarily reassigned. Everyone, look to your left - these are your new partners."

She narrowed her eyes as London opened his mouth to protest - "London, Tanith, you two stay together. I'm sure nobody else wants to deal with you except her, anyways," she said with a roll of her eyes.

"Anyone else have any objections?"

London DeMortei

London actually objected to the whole situation, but Cassandra naturally knew that.  He didn't want to be one of the Snake King's clean up crew, and pretty much decided that if the guy couldn't control his own people, he wasn't fit to be considered King.  That was just London, though.  He was pretty over-critical.

He was also willing to give whoever he was partnered with complete and utter Hell if it wasn't Tanith, which was why it was fortunate that O'Donnabhain took care of that right off the bat.  He was a picky guy, and he didn't like changing up something that he liked and which worked.  He and Tanith worked.  Messing that up would be BAD.  London looked to his left anyway, just to see who had turned out to be damn lucky.

It was the damn lion from SWAT, the one that was always hiding those dolls to scare Silvera.  Big Bishop.  That definitely wasn't the lion in the precinct that London got along with, since he was pretty tolerant of LeCroix, and that was that.  He'd have done everything in his power to be an ass, and completely ignored the fact that the guy was the size of a refrigerator.  That seemed to be a fairly common occurrence with the lions.

This meant that he didn't have to bitch, though.  He shot a smug little half-smile Tanith's way, almost pleased.  Almost.

Other Characters

Tanith Korakas

Tanith had been sitting to London's right, and as she glanced at LeCroix and offered him a small smile, O'Donnabhain had cemented her to London's hip yet again. It was fine with her. She enjoyed Jaime's company, no doubt - he was massive and comedic, but London was, well, hers. She couldn't imagine what it was like to be a cat, to be territorial, but she supposed when it came to London, that was what she felt. Nobody was allowed to be his partner except her - period.

Seemed Cassandra saw it the same way.

"Wow, how'd I get so lucky?" she crooned to London, reaching over to poke him. She was the only person that she'd ever seen who'd been able to do that and not pull back a proverbial nub, and that was just dandy for her. "You think we're going to find this woman?" she asked softly, eyebrows raised to London. She was willing to bet her brother already knew the who's and the where's, but she'd never have caused him to compromise his job in that regard. Tanith just knew better.

Gabriel Sullivan

Gabriel wasn't nearly as pissed off about all this, but he wasn't particularly pleased to be involved in this particular mess.  He was supposed to be forensics, a nerd cop.  Blood spatter expert.  This wasn't that kind of job, and he'd noticed that he was getting more of those lately.  Midnight was getting out of control.  Not a good thing in the least, and really, not something he wanted to be involved in.  He'd avoided both Midnight and Mayhem his entire life, simply because he hadn't wanted to get involved, and now he was going to have to deal with the mess.  Delightful.

Even worse, this dangerous Viper being on the loose just didn't bode well.  He wasn't planning on running into her, but he wasn't worried about himself.  With the police after her, Victoria Kelly was sure to be more desperate and dangerous than before, and innocent people were sure to end up in her way.  That was how it always went.

Even better, he was getting a partner.  Lovely.  Kat was human, which meant that he was going to have to lie to her about this whole situation, which he didn't prefer, and he was going to have to tolerate working with someone else.

Ironically, he'd settled right next to the wall, and therefore didn't have a partner on his left to work with.  He happened to BE the partner on the left, since he looked to his right and found Wesley Bishop standing there, with London DeMortei on HIS right.  London was ordered to work with Tanith (which was fortunate for Wesley, as far as Gabe could tell), which basically meant that Gabe got to work with Wes.  That'd be...interesting.  He'd heard plenty about the guy, as well as the rest of the SWAT team.

Great.

London DeMortei

It was true that Tanith was really the only one who could get away with things such as poking him and teasing him like that, though in most cases, the offender simply got a look that clearly said he wasn't impressed and they weren't worth his time, and was then ignored.  He had a GREAT silent treatment, which he was perfectly fine with breaking at a moment's notice if the victim had done something stupid.  It was only the truly stupid offenders that got attacked, either verbally or physically, though usually verbally.  London despised stupid people.  He personally believed that they shouldn't be allowed to speak until they'd listened enough to lose that stupidity.

Partnering him with Bishop would have been stupid, that much was obvious.  Fortunately, O'Donnabhain knew that already, and had dealt with it accordingly.  He liked that about her.

"It isn't luck, it's brains," he told her, and he meant that one.  As far as he was concerned, he and Tanith were matched well because they were similar, and definitely the most valuable, whether others realized it or not.  Being willing to do what was necessary was a very worthwhile thing, and Tanith had that brother of hers.  Whether Tanith realized it or not at this point, Taran would be very valuable in this situation.  Even if he didn't totally betray the people he knew, he could give them important 'hints'.  London would take what he could get in that department, and discuss it with Tanith later.  In front of the others would just be stupid.

"Perhaps," he answered, fairly simply for him, but that was because he was weighing whether or not he WANTED to be the one to find her.  A white viper would be dangerous, very dangerous, even to shifters like them.  Her poison alone could be an absolute hell, and that wasn't taking anything else she was capable of into consideration.  It'd be a hell of a career boost to catch her, though.  Having the Diente's thanks wouldn't exactly be so bad, either.  People in power who owe you were also good to have.

Cassidy Rivers

Mainly Cassidy stood just observing as she knew she'd be better off. But, when Sergeant O'Donnabhain had said the person to their left would be their partner, it felt like her heart had stopped...Well, at least it isn't him... she said as she looked at the pair O'Donnabhain had assigned off the bat.

It wasn't that she was afraid of getting a partner...it was more like an ongoing fear that they wouldn't trust her. And, trust issues were a problem when it came to cops. She was a true team player, much to self-centered people's distaste, because she would have anyone's back, at any time...even if it looked like she was hanging back and minding her own business. She observed. It was as simple as that. That's how she typically got the label of loner...but she wanted to change that.

As she looked to her left, there was naturally no one there, so to her right was a very well-defined man that...well, was just that...very well...built. And, his eyes...

Cassidy snapped herself out of it before it went any further.

She stuck out her hand, and introduced herself, "My name is Cassidy Rivers..."
