Night's Omen

Credit where it was due, Alexander did no more than nod when Samantha spit her venom at him, because he deserved it about as much as he didn't; yes, she'd have died for real if they went in somewhere hot and he'd have woken up, but that was exactly why anytime they took serious heat, he took it and sent her ahead.  He wasn't a miracle worker, but whether she'd realized it just yet or not, it was a hell of a lot easier to prevent her from dying when his own death wasn't much more than an inconvenience.  He certainly wasn't going to say that because the whole situation wasn't ready to be 'discussed'.  He was informing her because the secrecy deal was apparently over and she needed to know how it worked before they went into the next mess, especially since he was literally going in live to a certain point. 

Knowing that he was, and that he was going to be depending very seriously on her to avoid getting him killed for real while she was extremely angry with him, really didn't make him feel great about the whole situation, but it wasn't like he had any choice but to make it work.  They didn't have any choice, because they had their orders, and that was something he could absolutely depend on right at that moment; she would do the job because she wasn't going to refuse their orders.  Hopefully, she didn't take the opportunity while he was down to break his nose, or something.

"I guess we'll see when we get there," he said simply, stepping aside to let her out of the room and grabbing a few things on his way out the door.  Samantha had his keys still, so either she was going to drive or she was going to throw them to him, but either way, he didn't plan on asking for them this time.  Knowing she was this mad at him inspired him to keep his mouth shut about some of his usual tics, just this once.
