Damn, I edited my PB icon list, and I was missing FIVE.  They weren't even really new ones, either.  Aimee, Cal, Chris, Drew and Grant (who is the only one I can excuse, because he IS new).

Family section looks great, but that makes me worry about what her history will look like.

Yea, basically I can blame Angie and Pur for the fact that Diana's family is going to explode into something stupidly long. Because. You know. You're making us all look bad. And, as I'm currently editing Diana and Angelica and Angelica's family is done, besides which it's really ambiguous so that leaves me with making Diana's family longer than the river Nile.

Just when I was about to disregard her as a character you find that...nice lololol, still getting a rewrite though when I get some time off from all these stupid history papers I've been writing...anybody want to know about Vietnam in the 1700-1800s? Hey, Cody. Well, since you asked....

First of all I'm not down with the idea of her being a Arun with that family and history and stuff. Aruns and Vidas are fairly rare for one simple reason - they keep on making the wrong people mad and then dying. They're still around and all, but they're fairly rare. Family is weird for another reason. The only named Aruns that we have around at the moment (and granted, there's probably a couple more - but only a couple; rare, like I said) who would have been old enough to sire a kid who is now 25 are Kevin - Hailee and Alex's dad - and Phillip - Kevin, Elizabeth and Grant's dad.

I suppose I can't really speak for Phillip, as Darren knows him better than I do, but I can tell you that the answer is no no no in the case of Kevin, which shaves that list down to one named character who might have sired her. You move on into the unnamed territory and it's slightly more possible, but very few witches are lone hunters. They are witches who are hunters. They are not part of a guild or organization other than simply the clan of witches, but having one be a roaming hunter is very, very, VERY unlikely. Dominique Vida is the matriarch of the the witches - all the witches. Basically you go where she wants you to you. You are only allowed to go where you want to go if she doesn't care or she allows it. This is kind of rare.

In the unlikely event that what you have outlined actually occurred, her name would not be Arun, it would be whatever her mother's last name was. Let me re-stress that word - unlikely. It is improbable in the extreme, given the tight rein that's kept on witches and the low numbers of the hunting lines, that anything like this would happen. Even if it did, why would Lothaire pay attention to that one particular child? He runs whorehouses, and it makes sense that the women would get pregnant. Why would he single out this one particular kid of this one particular whore for special attention? Unless he was paying a ridiculous amount of attention to every tiny detail of everything that went on in anything connected to him, he might not even have noticed her. He would have known of her, certainly, but knowing of and knowing are two very separate things, and there would be no reason for him to pay particular attention to this particular case. He would have had no way of knowing who the father was.

NOW.

Toss all that aside for a moment - the fact that she's basically impossible as written right now - and let's move on. Physical Description and personality are the wrong mindset for a broken slave - which, if she was raised by a vampire of Midnight, she'd be if that vampire was even sort of a good trainer. It's a bit easier to raise someone to love you than it is to break them into doing it, and I believe Lothaire has done both. (right? Right? You don't mention his training style that much in his profile that I saw, just a few bits about pain and stuff and sorry, it's late and I don't feel like digging through old threads to find proof or the lack thereof).

When a slave is well trained, they are basically an extension of the mentality of their master, unless that master decides to leave them some free will. This second version while keeping them well trained is much more difficult, naturally. I doubt Lothaire is up to the level that Jeshickah, Gabriel and Jaguar inhabit, which means that unless Lothaire just did bizarre stuff Mikaela should not have the amount of personality/individuality that she does if she was raised from an infant to be a slave and a bodyguard. After all, she got brought in as an infant. More personality: She should have no idea she's a witch, she should have no idea that being raised outside of Midnight is the norm, she should have no idea that what she's going through is considered traumatic.

It's just what is. People will judge 'normal' by what it is that they know, and she wouldn't have known anything else so being raised as a weapon and a shield by a manipulative vampire master wouldn't have been unusual or traumatic for her. It would have shaped her but it wouldn't have traumatized her, as trauma implies something very unexpected and DO NOT WANT. This was what she was raised to, everything would be expected.

Once again, how Lothaire raised her would be what she knew. He wouldn't have to retrain anything into her - there never would have been a way for her to learn bad habits in the first place, not with him paying that much specialized attention to her.

Once again, she should have no idea she's a witch. Lothaire wouldn't have any idea unless he was quite good at reading power signals and whatnot when she was very young and trained her to use her powers. The fact that she never got to be a 'real witch' wouldn't bother her because this is her life, this is what she was raised to and this is what she was trained to. Real witch? Where? What's a witch, by the way. Sure she can do things, but that's because of Master. Master is the one who taught her how to do everything.

Of course she's confident of her place in Midnight - it's right behind Lothaire. Lothaire, he's the one who matters, and there she is to protect him.

Also, if he'd wanted her to drink blood there wouldn't have been coercing, not really. He'd want her to and so she would, whether she wanted to or not. Even if she resisted and he wanted her to she would, because he is the master and he wants her to. Coercion implies persuasion, and that would not have been the case here. Why would he have had her drink it though? Once again, she wouldn't even know of her own kind unless Lothaire sat down and had a long talk with her about the state of the world and her place in it, which I kind of doubt. Her thinking to run away to them wouldn't even have been an issue.

You have this structured much more like an odd cross between a mercenary and a slave than you do an actual slave; slaves don't tend to act like this.

I'm sorry, but I'm just not seeing her work as you currently have her written on any level, from the basics right on up. The beginning of that is the fact that witches are insanely rare in Midnight and if the other witches got wind of that, there would be trouble. There is a reason nobody's created a witch slave yet, lol. If you have any other ideas (or maybe even a way to make this one work, but like I said - UNLIKELY, UNLIKELY), feel free to hit me up in IM if I'm actually there at the moment and not off doing college-related thingummies such as I am actually paying to go and do. If you want to I can sit down and try and work stuff out with you.

Sounds good blue, I'm just more or less tossing around ideas that float around my head, and since I have read exactly ummm half of one of the books that makes up the source material, yeah...so I'm just hashing ideas around and this may become a complete rewrite from the ground up only reusing the PB..so yeah, just strange little mental games to distract me from Napoleon and Phuc Anh and all the wonderful crap I'm writing about constantly for my classes this semester. But when ever I get a better idea I'll try and hash it out with you.

Bear in mind that if you end up scrapping Mikaela herself, we can always change the name of the account to something else. You're not stuck with her if you decide you don't know what to do.
