"So, what is this show called?" Gina asked, leaning against the kitchen counter and tilting her head as she watched the bag of popcorn rotating unevenly in the microwave. She was never big into television, but her friends had convinced her that there was a show she simply had to see before she died, and since in Gina's way of life (total chaos) that could be literally any day, she decided the first free Saturday night she had, she'd allow them to enlighten her.

Jessica Markova sat on the couch next to Gina's sometimes-boyfriend Seth, and mutual friends Cherie Paxton and her boyfriend Noah Carter cuddled on the loveseat. Jessica took a moment to wrinkle her nose at them, if only because she was slightly jealous of the fact that they were so ensconced in eachother and she was riding solo (yet again). She heard Gina's voice over the constant popping in the kitchen, and so she rose and picked the DVD case up, taking it in with her.

"Firefly?" she responded, her typical lilting voice making her answer sound more like a question.

"I've never heard of it," Gina said flatly, not taking her eyes away from the popping corn.

"Well, it got canceled before it was even done airing, and actually, Fox didn't even air the episodes in order. See, they - "

"Don't spoil it for her!" Noah cried from the living room. "I want to tell her about how they fucked Whedon over after she's fallen in love with the series!" The sound of Cherie giving him a sound thump was muffled by Seth's laughter as the two began to 'fight', and Noah was effectively dumped over the side of the loveseat by his rather strong girlfriend. Damn jackals.

"Oh, Joss Whedon did this? Didn't he do Buffy, too?" Gina said, perking up a little.

"Yeah, and Angel. And Dollhouse," Jessica said, knitting her brows. "I think Buffy and Angel got full runs, but Dollhouse got shitcanned, too. Well, they tried, anyways. The thing is, fans responded so harshly to Firefly's drop that Fox was scared to cancel Dollhouse without letting Whedon wrap the series up."

Gina snorted, and the microwaved sounded, so she pulled the bag out, shook it, and dumped it into the large neon pink bowl that had been waiting on the counter to receive the salty treat. "Well, I guess we'd better get to it, then. Here," she said, thrusting the bowl at Jessica and trading her for the DVDs. "You'll never figure out how to work the player. Seth rigged it pretty badly."

"I did not!" he protested as the two girls re-entered the living room. He moved over so that Jessica had room on the couch. "Hey Jess, you know, you kind of look like the mechanic, Kaylee. Has anyone told you that?"

Jessica waved her hand. "I hear it all the time. It's a compliment, really," she said with a grin.

Gina, meanwhile, had put in the first disc and queued up to the main menu. "Okay, guys, are we ready?"

The group all made a collective noise of accord, and she pressed play.

"This show better not suck," she warned them, settling down next to Seth and reaching for her Pepsi.
