Tanith Korakas

Everything Tanith would have said got sucked out the window when London's tone of voice changed. She'd been his partner long enough to know - to hear it. It made the bird in her puff its feathers and want to inch away, either that or start circling the skies, signaling to the rest of her feathered brethren that food was to be had, blood aplenty on the soil.

"London," she said. Not sharply, not even loudly - enough that he could hear her, not that anyone else at the moment mattered. What she and Taran had was a Fine Line, it was special and unique and maybe even magical by some standards of definition, but what she and London had was something that you don't ever get unless you're either married to someone, or put into constant life/death situations with someone. Fortunately for both of them, it was the latter. If he didn't like his current wife, he'd have hated Tanith.

She put her hand on his shoulder - at some point she'd stopped moving, coming to still just by his side. She didn't say anything to Cassidy, not yet - she needed to shut him up, first, and preferably get him out of the room before she had to call in James.

High-heels in the hallway told her there wasn't even time for that.

"Sarge is in," she said, making a tsk'ing noise with her tongue.

Hearing the heels clicking, she had to move fast, not wanting to be in the same room with a stick of dynamite any longer, "Thank you. I know all I need to know, now. And, that is that I am not welcome," Cassidy said as she turned to Tanith, "Thank you for your assistance, Detective. But, I think I will go find Sergeant O'Donnabhain, and let you two do your thing before I overstep my boundaries, provoked or not, again."

Cassidy turned and left the room, heading down the hall, putting what had just happened behind her.

She kept looking up at the signs on the doors when she heard the heels clicking behind her.

Cassidy turned around to face the wearer of the heels...

She was at a sudden loss for words...

Cassandra O'Donovan

It wasn't an uncommon occurrence for Cassandra to knock the speech out of someone - perhaps it was because she was a vampire, or that the aura that surrounded her dragged the truths across lips like broken glass, jagged and bleeding. It also was widely attributed to the fact that her appearance was quite so... so. She was almost indescribable, even when you looked right at her. Neither petite nor tall, slender nor large, and ageless. Some would say she was young enough to be their daughter in the department, while others felt she could be easily their sister or even older still.

She pursed full lips and arched a brow, a file tucked under the arm of her navy blazer which matched her skirt. She was dressed most professionally, as she needed to be, because what good was PR when you looked like you'd just rolled out of bed? No cup of coffee or other morning additive accompanied her, though she seemed bright-eyed enough without it.

"Can I help you?" she asked, her voice light and slightly accented. She still retained that Irish trill, but it was very faint. She looked expectant - perhaps because she already knew who Cassidy was; or maybe she didn't. It was... hard to put your finger on what she really did with that mind of hers, some days.

"I was just looking for Sergeant O'Donnabhain, to report in for SVU. My name is Cassidy Rivers, SVU from Fayetteville. I am a day early, and I wanted to let the Sergeant know that I was ready," Cassidy said as she assessed the appearance of the woman standing in front of her.

She knew that Detective Korakas had said the Sarge was in a press conference, and that right before she had left the room, she had also said that the Sarge was in.

"I'm usually not this timid, or antsy, but I was introduced by Detective Korakas to Detective DeMortei," Cassidy said. Then, she thought about it...

Why would I tell someone I don't know about that?

Cassandra O'Donovan

"Fayetteville," she repeated. "Arkansas or North Carolina?" She could determine from the accent that it was Southern, but both states had spawned accents like that, so she didn't know for sure. She was aware a new transfer was coming in, but she hadn't been up to speed on the details thanks to the stupid Midnight shit that was happening. It made her angry just thinking about it, but outward, she was all smiles and roses.

"I'm Sergeant O'Donnabhain," she said warmly. "And don't worry about DeMortei. Whatever he said to you, he's said it to everyone else. I don't know how Korakas puts up with it, but she does, which is why they're paired up with eachother." She held out her hand to shake Cassidy's.

"This is a big place and it gets downhill fast, so don't worry about feeling that way. Once you get into the groove of things, your stomach'll settle down and you'll feel more at home. If you want, I can take you to the SVU department. We're almost there, now. The signs are... misleading. I think someone's been swapping them." She narrowed her eyes a little at one of the men down the hall, who turned and flashed her a toothy grin.

"I see you, Silvera," she called after him. She shook her head and smiled before looking back at Cassidy. "Shall we, Detective Rivers?"

Cassidy nodded, and then added, "Arkansas, Sergeant."

She followed in behind O'Donnabhain, not following too close, maintaining a comfortable distance in respect to her superior officer. She adjusted the collar of her black pantsuit and made sure it was even on her shoulders.

But, even as she fidgeted with her clothes, her mind was swimming in thoughts about the precinct, the cases, this mysterious disappearances, and the friendly and the not so...

Besides, she wanted a challenge, and she had heard these were the best cops and detectives in the country. There was no way she was going to let that slip by her.

Cassidy watched as O'Donnabhain turned into her office...she waited until she was invited in...

Cassandra O'Donovan

Cassandra's invite was more of a beckon with a hand that she wasn't paying attention to; her body was mostly turned as she began to arrange things on her desk before she sat for a moment. Once she looked up, she withdrew her hand, clearing away strands of fine, black hair from her vision and gestured for her to have a seat. "Now, I'm not sure who to have you paired up with. We've got one detective, Eliza, who's on leave currently. She's free, and I might stick you with her for the time being. She's amicable enough, but she's tenacious, which I get the sense you also are judging from your transfer notes."

She'd pulled Cassidy's file, that's what she'd done. She glanced through it quickly, picking up just what she needed to for the current conversation, and set it behind her atop the filing cabinet. "In the meantime, I'm sure we can find something for you to do. The Greenwich Village fire is all but a mess, but it's not quite SVU's area, so you can read it at your earliest convenience. For now, I'd say the disappearances are the biggest part of anyone's concern."

She gestured to a room across from her own office, where a grid had been set up, tiny coloured pushpins marking the areas where people had last been seen. In a low voice, she spoke. "The problem, Detective Rivers, with working for the police department when you're like us, is that you know when they're at a dead end before they do." By her specific uses of 'us' and 'them', it was fairly clear what she referred to; or rather, whom.

"Are you familiar with Midnight?" she asked.

Midnight?

Cassidy shrugged slightly, but not disrespectfully, "I'm sorry, but not exactly. Unless, it is the term for which is given to the other things that go on at night."

She knew about them, she knew what the Sergeant was, but she didn't know what their definition of Midnight was.

"Please don't take this as I don't know what goes on...I do. But, I also know this is a whole lot different than Arkansas too," Cassidy said as she had her hands in her lap, fiddling with the ring on her right hand that her parents had given her.
