About the New York Center


History

New York City was one of the first places Single Earth took hold in, when the ideas on peace and unity in Vieton developed into what was to become the organization of today. As the city grew rapidly during the late 19th century and more humans and Nyeusi came to live there, it became a melting pot of ideas, cultures and business and part of what inspired the more political aspect of Single Earth. Each individual living by the ideals of acceptance was one thing, but many individuals actively working together could accomplish a lot more.

Over the past century there have been many important people for Single Earth working in or from this high-paced and sometimes dangerous city. During wartimes it's been an important link in channeling information and fugitive Nyeusi, and the members have always been quick to give aid to the Nyeusi-innocent part of the city in a crisis, like the race-riots in the sixties, the city's near bankruptcy in 1975 and the attack on the Twin Towers in 2001. It may not be the oldest or the largest, but this old Center has much to be proud of by way of accomplishment.

With as extensive as the Center is in New York City, there are several hundred people working for Single Earth in some way. Even high officials in the Mayor's office have come to have some form of connection to Single Earth from time to time, either though membership or by way of their payroll.


Local Policy

Like all of Single Earth, the New York Center does not actively try to inform unknowing humans about the parallel existence of non-human beings. If someone can live out their life in innocence, they should be allowed to do so without interference.

The purpose of this Center is widespread. Some members help with the protection of the helpless, or providing support and knowledge to those unexpectedly exposed to Nyeusi. Some are working on furthering Single Earth's international ties or keeping in touch with the smaller, more outlying branches of the organization, as well as the other main Centers. Much of the New York Center is devoted to business and politics, but it still aims at giving peaceful Nyeusi several safe havens where they can relax and be themselves without endangering ordinary human way of life.


Location

The Center in New York is made up of several widespread offices, housings and businesses all over the city, and can't be said to be located at any one single place. There are a few offices that work as an internal contact network where those in the Center's administration work, but most of Single Earth in New York City consists of places run by individual members, such as The Wanderer's Inn.

The Center reaches over all walks of life, from high profile businesses to homeless shelters, and its means are open for both members and non-members, as long as they follow the rules of Single Earth. There are whole buildings in which anything from informational meetings to festive gatherings can be held, where Nyeusi and Nyeusi-aware can contact or advertise to others involved, or simply go to relax and make friends. For emergencies there are safe-houses, magic-users, special bank accounts, connections with the Guilds, and medical clinics with doctors and healers dedicated to treating Nyeusi.

Since the New York Center is so large and varied, Players can make up their own locales, workers and descriptions depending on what is needed in the current situation.

Available Positions

As seen in the description of this Center, it's a large place with many people working. Every individual's effort is important, so Players can make up jobs and employees/volunteers where they are needed. There is room working with the humans and the bureaucracy of the human world, such as the Mayor's office, as well as dealing with vampires, witches and shifters, or in communication and information.

You can freely make your own characters working in those areas, either as an NPC or as a character, or you can make a person working in a whole other field. There are cab-drivers, hotel-managers for places like the Wanderer's Inn, bartenders, reporters, nurses - anything your imagination can come up with that function within the bounds of Single Earth rules.
