Posey had no use for food, but it didn't mean that she didn't enjoy baking. Little smudges of flour stained her cheeks and nose, and there were white puffs of it against the light pink apron that she'd thrown over her long flower-print skirt and white peasant top. She set the timer on the oven for twenty minutes, and then turned to a double-layered cake and began mixing frosting. The scent of pumpkin spice was filling the kitchen rather quickly, and Posey had to admit that she did miss it sometimes. She enjoyed having heightened senses in the kitchen... provided it was for confectioneries, and not seafood. Gross.

"Why am I the only person here who likes to bake?" she asked herself aloud, beginning to frost the outside of the cake. "I guess it's better than anything else I could be doing," she replied, still trying to decide what theme she was doing. She had a dozen cupcakes to do, too. How tiring. She looked up at the clock - Laurel would be there soon enough, and then she'd have help. Still... this was a LOT of stuff to do.

Violet was nearly always busy with something. She had her menagerie to care for, she had rescuing to do, she had people that she could be helping, she had SingleEarth work that she was doing. There was always something that she could do. Vi, of course, didn't mind this - quite the opposite, she enjoyed it almost as much as the times when she just curled up with Timothy for a few moments and let the world slip away. However, it seemed to Violet that when you had this much time than you really could make a difference; why not take advantage of that? Even if it was just a little thing. She had abilities that not many others did, and she used them.

This didn't mean, however, that there weren't times when she just wanted to do something without much purpose. The great thing was that she had time enough for that as well, as long as there wasn't a deadline or something that she was working towards.

And so today Violet was at SE - not, for once, to be out and about doing good (or at least, not with any specific plans for doing so) - but simply to be there. It was a nice place just to stay; the atmosphere was warm and soft and comfortable. Vi had never quite understood how someone could dislike being someplace like here.

And then, as though to make the place even nicer, she smelled pumpkin and spices. Someone was baking.

Violet laughed a little and made her way down to the kitchen, poking her head in to see who was there. "Posey! I didn't know that you were here today! I haven't seen you forever! That smells wonderful, by the way - anything in particular that you're baking for?"

"Oh," she said, jumping a little as Violet popped in. She laughed at how startled she'd gotten, and then set down the frosting knife before she accidentally made a blob on her cake. "Hey, Violet," she cheered good-naturedly. "I'm just... baking," she said with a giggle, shrugging her shoulders. "I was in the mood. It isn't like I have to eat it, but.... I still like the taste." She picked the knife up again, scooping out more frosting, and started back on the cake.

"Want to help? I've got a ton of cupcakes I'm doing. I'm going to be bringing some to Laurel's later, and I know Poppy loves pumpkin pie. She says it makes her feel human," she added with a chuckle.

Splayed all over the counter were sprinkles, coloured sugar crystals, frostings, dyes, and about everything else a budding confectionary artist would want. Posey just pointed to them. "You're good at art, right?" she asked. "You should do the cake, then. I had no idea for a design, except for flowers. All I can do is make frosting flowers."

Violet? Violet just laughed a little. "Sure," she said, "I'd love to help. Although - and fair warning - I have never worked much in frosting before, so it could well be that you're way better than I am. Hopefully it will work out.

"Honestly though, it smells delicious - I think that I want some." Violet was an odd mixture sometimes - always so happy, always so nice, warm and happy and serene. She really was a nice girl - one could look her up in a dictionary and find her name under the definition, if it had that entry.

"You know," she grinned a little, "I never knew that you liked to bake." She sighed. "I guess it's because I'm so busy - some days I think I'll never get time to sit down ever again. Not that I'm complaining, of course - I like those days, actually. Because when you're doing that much then you must be doing some good, and... and if you're doing good then something will come of it." Violet was essentially an optimist, and that was very evident in moments like this. She smiled over at Posey, and what she saw made her smile yet more - orange coloring the air around her, and yellow, and blue.

"I'm mostly domesticated," she joked as Violet teased her about baking. "I guess it comes with the territory, though. I like it - makes me feel useful. And besides, who doesn't like pastries? Honestly, I make these things and they eat them just as fast. Especially Melissa and Matthew. My God, it's a wonder neither of them are fat by now," she laughed.

"Do you think your husband would want some?" she asked. "You can totally write his name on one of the cupcakes," she said. She pointed to some of the frosting stuff, and at one of the tips in particular. "Screw that one on the end of the colour you want, and it makes it way easier. I've been using the tip that you're supposed to make rosettes out of to do font, and my writing comes out all super-squiggly and archaic-looking. Poppy makes fun of me," she laughed again.

Really, the two could clear a room with all of their happy.
